Program

Cycling culture is rapidly evolving in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, across North America and around the world. This year’s congress acknowledges the ambition of many communities to accelerate the adoption of mass cycling by looking at the subject through the lens of equity. How do we ensure everyone has an ownership in bicycling and active transportation no matter the time of year, where they live, their age, ability or background? How do we engage with the wide range of people and their communities to find cycling as a practical and welcoming option?

With the intent of empowering and engaging more interested but concerned people to keep riding through the winter, the congress will look at bicycle and pedestrian planning from every angle. This will be an opportunity to discuss the policy, planning, engineering, design, maintenance, implementation, evaluation and encouragement necessary to creating a built environment and social context in which mass cycling is a reality in July and January. There will be three tracks at the congress, including the following.

  1. Build it – policy, planning, engineering & design for year-round cycling and walking
  2. Maintain it – implementing the plan & maintaining safe, comfortable conditions
  3. Bike it –evaluating winter cycling & encouraging health, economic and social benefits
